Accessing the service
CamoMail Chat is powered by the XMPP Protocol. While there is no web access provided by CamoMail, the service can be used by using any XMPP client, such as Gajim, Conversations or Monal (among others). We recommend that you use a client that supports OMEMO encryption. Below are the details for connecting your XMPP client.
Username | Hostname | Port |
---|---|---|
your_username@camomail.org | camomail.org | 5222 |
Server group chat
When your account is created, it is automatically added to the server group chat, that you can quit at any time. If you quit it and want to join it again later, write an email to support at camomail.org (PGP).
Server limits
File uploads are currently limited to a size of 6 MiB, but this may change in the future.
End-to-end encryption
By default, messages are not end-to-end encrypted and are stored in plain text on our servers. It is therefore recommended to use OMEMO encryption, so that even people who have access to the server are not able to read your messages. Popular XMPP client, such as the one listed above, all provide end-to-end OMEMO encryption. Clients typically display a shield or a lock icon to indicate when messages are encrypted.
